Sticker Spotlight: Recreating Wheel Spec Stickers

Introduction

The real ones don't modify their cars for others to see. Important details on a car, especially for a collector mindset, are the items that only they know themselves.

For our first UV Works Sticker Spotlight, we are featuring a custom sticker project we completed for Jerry, a passionate enthusiast who refurbished a set of Rays Gram Lights wheels.

After the wheels were professionally restored, one detail was missing:

• The original inner barrel specification stickers.

These factory stickers contain information specific to the wheel, including size and fitment specifications. They sit hidden inside the barrel of the wheel and are rarely noticed by anyone except the owner. It is certainly important information when wheels change hands too.

For enthusiasts, details like these matter.

The Story Behind the Sticker

When a wheel is restored, if the sticker has made it that far in life, it will certainly be stripped off during the process.

Unfortunately, obtaining replacement stickers from the manufacturer is often impossible, especially for older wheel models or discontinued specifications.

For collectors and enthusiasts, this creates a gap in an otherwise perfect restoration. That extra level of satisfaction! The wheel may look brand new, but a small piece of its factory identity is gone. Also, if you are a collector, this information is important to keep, and there's no better place to do so than on the wheels themselves.

Jerry wanted to bring that detail back as well, and gave us this cool challenge.

Our Challenge

OEM stickers are often produced using specialised processes, unique fonts, precise layouts, and dimensional accuracy.

In Jerry's case, we needed to recreate four stickers that matched the original Rays Gram Lights specifications as closely as possible.

The challenge involved:

• Research and matching the original dimensions
• Recreating the factory layout
• Preserving the typography
• Ensuring all specification information was accurately represented
• Producing a finished result that looked period correct

Because these stickers are mounted inside the wheel barrel, the finish needs to be reasonably wash resistant and scratch resistant. This is, in fact, a good use case for UV DTFs compared to other sticker mediums on the market, since they stay on relatively permanently compared to others.

The Final Result

The completed sticker set allowed Jerry to finish his wheel restoration exactly as he envisioned.

Fresh finish. And the correct specification labels back in their rightful place. It's a detail that most people may never notice. But for the owner, it's the difference between a refurbished wheel and a completed restoration.

Perfection always lives in the smallest details.
